The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance 2017, tabled in the Rajasthan Assembly on 23 October, is currently at the centre of a national uproar. Imposing restrictions on the two key instituions of democracy- the judiciary and the media, the ordinance (not the first of it's kind) raises fundamental questions that are essential for a 21st century democracy to address.
