The lockdown severely impacted the livelihood of street vendors, with many struggling to remain “Atmanirbhar”. In this episode of SO Basically we talk about how the lockdown has affected street vendors and what the government is doing to help them. Historically, street vending in India has been regulated by several state and municipal laws that weighed against vendors. The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014 was enacted to protect the livelihood rights and social security of urban street vendors. However, there are many gaps in the implementation of this act, which has made it difficult for vendors, as entrepreneurs, to do business, especially during the pandemic.
